Get A Tattoo

There are two ways to get tattooed by me.

My Art

Buy the artwork. Get it tattooed. The artwork in the shop is my artwork. Each piece is finished before you buy it and cannot be changed or customised.

Think of it like buying a painting from a gallery. You choose the piece because you want that particular piece of art. The only decision we need to make is how large it should be and where it will work best on your body.

The artwork remains mine. You’re licensing it for one tattoo only. You don’t own the artwork itself and it can’t be reproduced or used for another tattoo.

How it works

Choose a piece from the shop → buy it → Carron will contact you → we arrange your tattoo.

My artwork is charged at my current day rate and only done in day sittings. The only variable is scale. Larger pieces may take longer, so we’ll discuss the size and confirm the total price before booking.

Your Idea

You bring the idea. I’ll find the visual language. When you buy one of my artworks, I’m the artist. I make the decisions about what it looks like, how it works and what I want it to say.

A commission is different. For commissioned work, I prefer to think of myself as the Art Director. You bring me the subject, the story, the meaning or the idea. My job is to find the best visual language to communicate it as a tattoo.

That might mean graphic design. It might mean collage, portraiture, illustration, typography or something completely different. The idea comes from you. The visual solution is where I bring my experience.

And you don’t have to come up with something completely new. If you’ve seen something I’ve made in the past and thought, “I’d love something like that, but about this…”, that’s a commission too.

Maybe you loved something I was doing in 2013. Maybe there’s an old piece you’ve always wanted but it wasn’t quite your thing. Tell me what you liked about it and where you want to go with it now. We can revisit it.

The point isn’t to force your idea into whatever I’m currently making. We’re looking for the visual language that best serves your idea.

Bring Me A Visual Brief

The best way to start a commission is to show me what you mean. You can sketch it yourself, collect reference images, take photographs or use AI to create an initial visual idea.

The image isn’t the finished tattoo. It’s a visual brief. It’s a way of getting you and me onto the same page before I start making decisions about how the tattoo should work.

You don’t need to know how to draw. You don’t need to know how to use AI. But you do need to give me a clear idea that I can understand. If you hate AI or don’t know how to use it, that’s absolutely fine. Just find another way to show me what you’re thinking.

Show me what you mean

I’m not detective, researcher, therapist or historian. A tattoo is a collaboration. You bring the idea and the meaning. I bring the experience of turning that idea into something that works as a tattoo.

If I don’t understand the idea, I can’t make the tattoo. So please don’t send me 20 Google images, a 47-page PDF and a collection of links and expect me to work out what you’re trying to say.

I need to understand what you want the tattoo to be about and what you want it to communicate.

Large Tattoos – A4 and above

Larger tattoos take more planning, so the first step is a consultation. Bring your visual brief and we’ll talk through the idea, size, placement and what needs to happen to turn it into a tattoo.

For larger work, it’s often much easier to sit down and have a conversation than try to explain everything by email.

Small Tattoos – Below A4 in size

Small tattoos don’t need the same level of planning. Send your idea to the studio or, where available, come along on a walk-in day.

No job or idea is too big or too small.

A small piece of writing and a full bodysuit are very different jobs, but they’re both tattoos — and I’m happy to make either.
